| Hypnotherapy
would be an excellent tool for a typical client who wants to change or improve
something in their life, but hasn't been able to affect that change on their
own. We will use an example of using hypnotherapy to treat the issue of
procrastination (of doing paperwork) to explain how hypnotherapy works.
The hypnotherapy process is basically four steps: |
|
1. Hypnotherapy exposes
the client to understand the behavior.
Hypnotherapy
requires the client to understand the behavior. The hypnotherapist exposes
the subconscious motivators of the client's behavior. The perception of
the client's subconscious mind is that the paperwork activity is painful.
The client's subconscious behavior is AVOIDANCE due to this perceived
pain or fear.
2. Hypnotherapy includes a corrective plan or strategy.
Hypnotherapy includes a corrective plan or strategy for the
client. The strategy for procrastination would be to alter or change the
perception of the pain (or drudgery of paperwork). The client would do
the paper work for a short period, and then takes a break instead of do
everything all at once. The client would more likely to actually do some
paperwork because of this change of perception.
3. Hypnotherapy is to give corrective suggestion while the
client is hypnotized.
Hypnotherapy is to give corrective suggestion while the client
is hypnotized .The hypnotherapist guides the client into the state hypnosis
when the state of mind has an increased suggestibility. The hypnotherapist
will verbally repeat the important parts of the new strategy, such as
"we want you to make short periods of paperwork a priority in you're life.
Knowing that you will limit these periods to just 20 minutes; this makes
it easier and more doable than in the past." Or, the hypnotherapist may
have the client visualize doing the paperwork while feeling relaxed, hearing
the timer ding, and feeling a little grin or smile beginning to form on
their face.
4. Hypnotherapy evaluates and reinforces the corrective suggestion
Hypnotherapy need evaluation and reinforcement of the corrective
suggestion depending on the response of the client. In a subsequent hypnotherapy
session, the client and hypnotherapist evaluate what change has occurred.
Was the client successful by doing some paperwork? If so, the strategy
becomes reinforcing the change (or new behavior), and making it stronger
and stronger. The ultimate goal in this case is to create a new automatic
habit of doing paperwork.
